IT TAKES WILLINGNESS TO DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY...

The uncomfortable truth is that I have been that old school cringe leader.

I did harm.


20 years in the hospitality industry - most of it spent in management - and I had no idea about inclusion so I followed what I thought was needed to succeed.


I competed against other women and perpetuated sexist ideals. I viewed team members through a classist lens. I laughed at inappropriate jokes and comments because I was uncomfortable and didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I regularly acted out of my unconscious biases.


And when I started to see the world through a lens of inclusion. Oh my, did it stings to sit with my thoughts and review my actions.


So I had to heal. To forgive myself.


And then I began to research and learn more about how to change my habits and lead with intentionality so I could carry the work forward.

Self-Work to the FRONT

Develop your framework for unlearning & relearning through supported teaching, resources and healthy group discussion. Find yourself inside the topic of supremacy culture, connect with the internalized experience we are all healing from and the importance of intersectionality when developing anti-oppressive values and strategy. This is where you build the foundations of belonging.

The Marginalized Experience & Intentional Leadership

Find your voice and use it for transformative change. But first - pump the brakes - and try to understand the lived experience of those you seek to lead. The aim is not to ‘be everything to everyone’ - that concept is harmful in the way it overly smoothes the edges of intersectional identities. Through case studies, guest speakers and community discussions - this area will further develop your personal growth and leadership style.

Leadership Styles & Belonging in the Workplace

Ultimately, the work you do inside The Academy will combine several leadership styles into your own unique and dynamic inclusive leadership version. The goal is to craft a style around your needs and the community you serve. Learn what is needed to lead diverse groups through the highs and lows of daily operations. This foundation will stabilize the ongoing work you do long after graduation from The Academy.

Guessing lacks accountability. So does riding by the seat of your pants HOPING it all comes together. Here you'll learn to bring everything together into long-range goals and planning with the intention of completing the program with a roadmap for your leadership career and/or business. Working with inclusive marketing strategies. reparations partnerships, brand identity, social media image, vendor/stakeholder processes and more! This part is custom to you - supported by The Academy to make it all come together.
